  • It's Here!

After months of waiting and negotiations, the new bus is finally here! It looks a lot like the old bus, but it's nine years newer. It's only three years oldÐand in very good condition. The interior is almost like new. We expect to have many trouble free years of use. We have not been able to use it "over the road" yet because it came from Illinois and the State of New York registration process requires extensive paper work. We hope now to begin use of the new bus on Sunday, September 27th.

Fortunately the cost of the new bus is just about the same as the maintenance on the old bus which was beginning to live up to its name FORD (Fix or repair daily.)

We are able to provide this ministry through donations to the Bus Fund and support from the Kiesewetter Endowment. Donations to the Bus Fund are always welcome. There is an envelope for this in your envelope box. Please be generous.

What happens to the old bus? Well, we have managed to sell the old bus for just about enough to cover the costs of delivery and licensing for the new bus.

Dedication of the new bus will be on October 18th along with all our recent renovations. Be watching for details.

  • The Gospel According to.....Disney?

Pr Gaetz invites you to a slightly capricious investigation of how different authors have shaped their message to speak to their audience, starting with that 20th century theologian Walt Disney - yes the Walt Disney who created an empire that "started with a mouse." The class will meet in the Coffee Shop each Wednesday at about 7 PM - following worship.

Note: There is no class on September 30. Class resumes, with a new topic, on October 7.

  • St. Jerome - September 30

If you've ever thought to yourself, "I could NEVER be a saint. I have a really bad temper!" then this week let me introduce you to St. Jerome (343-420 AD). Jerome lived in the fourth century and is remembered mainly for two things. First, he was a great Biblical scholar and translated the Old and New Testaments into Latin (the official language of the early church), and second, this saint was a serious hot-head! Not only was he opinionated, he was famous for his passionate, fiery eruptions - all for the love of God's Word.

Now of course, being prone to anger will not lead anyone, including Jerome, closer to discipleship. Rather, Jerome shows us what to do in the aftermath of an angry outburst. Time and again Jerome repented and sought forgiveness, and yup, this is hard to do!

So the next time you doubt whether God is calling YOU (yes, you!) to follow him because you have a short fuse, recall to mind St. Jerome, repentance, and that famous phrase of Martin Luther -- we are "simul iustus et peccator" -- "simultaneously saints and sinners."

    Shalom y'all, Vicar Christine

  • News from Vanderkamp... Alumni? We Want You!

Did you attend camp at Vanderkamp any time from 1965 through 2008? Do you know someone (like a son/daughter, niece/nephew, grandchild, or church friend) who did? Did you ever work on summer staff at Vanderkamp? If so, we are looking for you! In particular we are looking for folks who participated in camp programs at Vanderkamp from 1965 through 2001 - those records are sketchy or nonexistent!

The Vanderkamp office is putting together a Vanderkamp Alumni database, and would like to include all who attended summer camp or were on summer staff at Vanderkamp any time over the past forty-three years. We need names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-ddresses. If you qualify for this group, please contact Tink at trhccrm@aol.com.
