- Monday Adult Class: The Heart of Christianity
What is most central to Christianity and to being Christian?
If you are looking for answers or just want to be part of a conversation on Christian theology, you are invited to join Pastor Peter and fellow Christians as we gather to hear and share thoughts on an "emerging Christianity." We will be using the book, "The Heart of Christianity" by Marcus Borg as our conversation starter.
Class will meet on Mondays at 12:30pm in the Chapel. There will be 13 sessions starting September 22.
What you can expect from our conversation is a vision of the Christian faith and life that may range from mildly challenging to wildly outrageous. What is expected from you, if you choose to join the conversation, is that you...
...Read the assigned material for each session.
...Be a vocal part of the conversation.
If you have been "thinking about it," it's not too late. Just contact the church office at 492-9065 (soon!!) and let Laura know you want to participate. She will also order Borg's book, just make sure she gets the $15 from you before class starts.

- Food Pantries Need Your Help
The local food pantries....ours, the Onondaga Valley Ecumenical pantry, and St. Paul's pantry on the west side are all stressed beyond their ability to serve. Please remember to bring in food pantry items as you can. Any and all help is appreciated!
We need items like: crackers; tuna; mayo/miraclewhip salad dressing; peanut butter; jelly; chunky type soups; canned chili, hash, stew, ham, chicken; canned fruit; canned milk; can openers from the Dollar Store. (When homeless folks are placed by the county at the Budget Inn, they sometimes come to us for food. Many canned foods require can openers.)
- Wednesday Night Class: The Wholeness Wheel
The Wholeness Wheel reflects our call to care for our whole self. By balancing the interconnected dimensions of well-being, we are able to live well in Christ and pass on our faith.
The Wholeness Wheel illustrates that wellness is multidimensional - made up of spiritual, vocational, intellectual, emotional, physical, social and financial elements of well-being. Spiritual well-being is intertwined with each aspect of wellness.
Please join Pastor Gaetz and explore the Wholeness Wheel, Wednesday Nights at 7:00pm.
- Adult Class Sunday Mornings: Amazing Grace
Sundays at 9:50 (starting September 28)
This class is based on the movie by the same name, about the life of William Wilburforce Ð his struggle to oppose slavery and his deep faith.
William Wilberforce (1759-1833) led the twenty-year fight to end the British slave trade. He finally succeeded in March 1807 and continued to fight for abolition until, days before his death in 1833, he saw the institution of slavery abolished throughout the British colonies. Not limiting himself to just abolitionist work, he dedicated his life to what he called his "two great objects:" abolishing slavery in the British Empire and what he called "the reformation of manners [society]." To this end, he advocated for child labor laws, campaigned for education of the blind and deaf, and founded organizations as diverse as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and the National Gallery (of Art). "Good causes," it has been said, "stuck to him like pins to a magnet." Please join us for study and guided conversation.
Please see the movie before attending the class sessions. It will be shown in it's entirety at Onondaga Valley/South Presbyterian Church on Sunday September 21 at 6:00pm. It is also available from most rental outlets.
