  • Support our Campers!

Did you forget to order pansies or petunias from the youth group to support LCLC camperships? There are usually extras, so be sure to check on Sunday.

If you aren't the "flower" type, you can still support the Camperships by making a donation. Summer Camp is expensive and anything you can give will help someone who needs it. Just mark your donation "LCLC Campership."

As always, our special thanks to Harper's Greenhouse for their beautiful flowers and for their generosity in helping us with our Campership Fundraiser.

  • Catherine of Siena - April 29

Catherine Benincasa lived in the 14 century in Siena (Tuscany) Italy. She was the youngest of 23 children (really) and grew up the daughter of a middle class tradesman. From a very early age she felt drawn to the religious life and chose to strengthen her spiritual discipline through bodily disciplines, a common practice in the Middle Ages. Hoping to draw closer to Jesus she would fast for weeks on end and punish her body to strengthen her spirit in ways that would make most of us cringe today. Yet even though Catherine took her practices to dangerous extremes - which no one currently condones or encourages - she is a reminder to us that God made us mind AND body; spirit AND flesh. This means that everything we do whether it's eating or drinking or exercising can be forms of prayer and thanksgiving to the God who made us. This also means that when we choose to do those things which we know are unhealthy like smoking or drinking too much alcohol, or eating too much food, we are also rejecting God's gift to us. So think about it before that third helping of mashed potatoes. Is this consistent with walking with our God in humble gratitude?
