Due to the Haiti crisis the Atonement Women of the ELCA are collecting items for Health Kits to be sent to Lutheran World Relief or Church World Service. Please help by placing items in the box in the narthex.
Include the following items in each health kit:

- One washcloth, dark color recommended
- One bath-size bar (4 to 5 oz.) of soap, any brand, in its original wrapping
- One adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging
- One wide-tooth comb, remove packaging
- One nail clippers (remove packaging)
Money is always welcome and the Women will buy the needed items.
DO NOT add toothpaste. The distributor will add toothpaste with an extended expiration date just prior to delivery.
- Who's Making the Donuts?
You may have noticed that the DunkinÕ Donut ad is no longer on the back of the Messenger. ThatÕs because the DunkinÕ Donuts on Salina Street is no longer ÒsponsoringÓ us with a significant discount on our Sunday donuts.
Therefore, we have been getting donuts at a variety of places over the last few weeks. ItÕs been at the convenience of the people picking up the donuts. For example, a couple weekÕs ago, Pastor Gaetz picked up donuts at Byrne Dairy on Onondaga Hill as he went by on his way to church.
We are in need of people to pick up the donuts. With this new Òpick them up where it is convenient for youÓ program, we hope to see more volunteers.
How does it work? Pick up four dozen donuts (or other pastries) at the stop of your choice, bring the receipt into church with you (under $25), put your receipt in Pastor RodgersÕ mailbox, and weÕll see that you are reimbursed the following week. (Make sure you put your name and contact information on the receipt.)
Sign up for your favorites on the sheet on the bulletin board just outside the coffee shop.

- Martin Luther - February 18

One thing Martin Luther was famous for as a young man was his intense, to the point of obsessive, soul searching and self-criticism. At one point his confessor told him to go out and do something really bad just so heÕd have something solid to confess. As we continue on our road trip IÕm willing to bet that not many of us obsessively bring our cars into the shop every week to have every little rattle or ping looked at by the mechanic. That would be foolish. However, IÕm equally willing to guess that many of us from time to time have driven around for miles with the engine light on, and this can be just as foolish. Yes, itÕs tempting to slap a piece of tape over that little idiot light and pretend that nothing is wrong. I know IÕve thought about it at times. But thatÕs foolish thinking if I want my car to run properly, just like itÕs foolish to ignore when weÕve drifted into sinful ways of thoughts and habits. Perhaps this Lent would be a good time for us to check our spiritual dashboard a little more frequently and then do something about it. ThereÕs a Great Mechanic who is always willing to help if we ask.
