  • Crafty Ladyes Bazaar - Saturday, November 10, 2007

The Crafty Ladyes bazaar will include crafts, attic treasures, a drawing for a Vera Wang bag, soup and sandwich lunch, and baked goods.

As part of the bazaar, the Crafty Ladyes are raffling a quilted Vera Bradley bag (donated by Linda Owens). See a Crafty Lady and get your ticket! Donations are $1.00. The drawing will be on November 10.

Every year, the Crafty Ladyes use proceeds from the bazaar to fund special projects. So please stop by and please be generous!

Note: the crafts from the bazaar will be available only for two days (November 10 and after church services on November 11), so if you see something you like, get it then. The Crafy Ladyes also need your help...

    • ...setting up for their sale. They will start at 9am on November 10th.
    • ...making baked goods. They can be dropped off either Friday, 10/9 or the day of the sale.
    • ...packing up after the sale, on Monday, 11/12.

  • Remembering and Supporting Those in the Armed Services

Over the next two weeks we will have two very special opportunities that we hope many of the Atonement Family will be able to participate in.

Sunday, November 11th we'll commemorate Veterans Day with music and prayer at both the 8:30 and the 10:45 AM Services. You are invited to bring small mementoes (Pictures, insignias, etc.) of loved ones who have served to be displayed in the sanctuary.

Sunday, November 18th at the 8:30 AM Service we'll recognize Mike Breedlove as he begins his service in the Navy. If you know of anyone else who might like to be included in these prayers, please contact the church office at 492-9065.

  • Psalm 17:1-9

Beginning this week, the Messenger will sometimes include devotionals written by Vicar Aaron Richter. From Vicar Richter:

My hope in these devotionals will be to dwell a little bit more in our often-overlooked Old Testament, and all the richness that is in it. I will try to use the readings for the Sunday after the Messenger is sent out, as these passages help to inform the New Testament readings.

The Psalms are an incredible book, especially since they are written from a human perspective and directed at God. The emotion that is in them is real for us, and gives us a place to take heart and hope. Psalm 17 is the cry of an innocent person who feels besieged and who needs God's care and justice. The writer asks for God to guard and hide them, asks God for protection from the dangers that surround.

Are there times when you feel surrounded? When you feel like you need to hide away from troubles? God is there for those who need refuge, to guard, to hide, and to love.

Let us pray, saving God, you are a sanctuary and refuge to all who feel surrounded and pressed down. Lift our burdens. Guard and protect us. And continue to nurture and hide us under your wings. In the name of your Son, Amen.

  • Food Pantry - Thanksgiving

We need food for Thanksgiving! We will feed at least 12 families who worship with us.

    Please bring:

    • boxed stuffing
    • boxed mashed potatoes ¥ canned vegetables, fruit, & gravy,
    • fall "Funfetti" cake mixes & icing
    • quick bread mixes
    • pumpkin pie filling (not plain pumpkin)
    • pie crust mix, juice and coffee
    • ...and as always, we'll happily take cash (or check) to help to purchase turkey and anything else needed to round out the baskets.

    Thank you for your generosity!

  • Fuel Offering

The 2007 Offering Envelope boxes contain a "special" envelope for the week of October 28 for Energy needs.

Looking at the forecast for the upcoming week, we are reminded that the fuel costs for heating Atonement add up quickly! Please consider a generous extra mile gift to help us get the bills paid.
