  • Atonement Youth Join Crop Walk

Youth Group prepares to head off to the 2007 CROP Walk...

Twenty-seven Atonement youth and adults participated in CROP Walk on Sunday, Oct. 14--a record number of participants. The youngest was Heather Brynien, who almost stayed awake for the entire event. Alas, as we treked back from Downtown Syracuse to the SU Hill, poor Heather succumbed and was sound asleep as she was pushed up the hill in her stroller by Casey Draper. We don't know who the oldest participant was as we were too polite to compare the ages of our adult chaperones!

Our Atonement Church family supported our walkers with $459 in contributions--another record. The total was pushed over the top with a very generous donation by Kevin Smith. Thank you Kevin! We began our CROP Walk by joining the Syracuse University contingent at Hendricks Chapel in celebration of 100 years of Lutheran Campus Ministry and the installation of the new LCM chaplain, Rev. Gail Riina, who joined us on the walk. Led by Otto the Orange, our Atonement crew walked at the front of the entire SU contingent (almost 200 SU students) as our kids were invited by Otto to walk alongside him to Columbus Circle, where we joined the Downtown CROP Walk. We did the one-mile downtown loop (except for one adult-led, small group of us who did an extra couple of blocks after missing the right turn to Montgomery Street), stopped for some cider and cookies, then most of us walked back to the SU Hill and our cars. A few with extremely weary feet got a ride back to the Hill from Brenda Wilbur, who helped us with logistics.

It was a beautiful day for walking, our kids were awesome and they made us all very proud that they are members of our Atonement family.

Here is the list of people who made the incredible trek. Special thanks to all of our adult participants.

The Crafty Ladyes are collecting your unwanted treasures that someone else is waiting to enjoy. This year we are accepting new and almost new, clean, clothes (on hangars or folded). Your treasures can be dropped off at church (downstairs, the second door to the right on the way into the Fellowship Hall). Mark your calendars now! The bazaar will be November 10, 2007.

This year, we will have a drawing for a Vera Bradley bag (pictured here), generously donated by Linda and John Owens. To purchase a ticket, see one of the "Ladyes." Drawing will be at the bazaar on November 10.
