January 8, 2008 - Volume 29, #2

  • January Business
Please make sure you have marked your calendars:
    • Sunday, January 20, 2008 - The Bulletin of Reports for the Annual meeting will be available at all worship hours. Plan to pick one up and, please bring it back to the meeting on the 28th as these books are costly to produce and we would like to avoid printing more than are needed. If you would like a copy mailed to you, please call the church office at 492-9065.

    • Sunday, January 27, 2008 - Annual Dinner Meeting Ð Immediately following the 10:45 AM service we will gather in the Fellowship Hall for dinner (stew!) and then move to the Chapel for the business meeting. This arrangement has worked well for the last two years. We'll be doing it again. This allows Appleseed to have a 2 PM performance in the Fellowship Hall and all of us to hear better at the meeting in a smaller space with adequate sound system.

  • 2008 Pledges

As we ended 2007 only about half as many pledge cards have been received as we usually get. Did you forget yours? Please look around. If you still have it, send it in. If you can't find it... call the church office for a replacement. Or, better yet, pick one up at church next Sunday and fill it out. We need everyone's support to keep the bills paid. On a related subject....

  • 2008 Offering Envelopes

Envelopes were mailed on January 2nd. If you have not yet received yours, call the church office for a replacement.

  • 2007 Statements

Year End Giving Statements will be mailed shortly. Please look yours over very carefully. If anything is missing or if something doesn't look just correct, please call the church office and leave a message fro Ken Greig and he'll get back to you quickly. We want to be sure everything is accounted for properly.

  • Coffee Shop

It's a new year and we need to get organized for the Sunday Coffee Shop. Baxter Simmons has graciously been doing set up every week and intends to continue doing it, weather permitting, now that he lives in Elbridge. Thanks Bax for such great dedication! But....the sign up sheet list for picking up donuts has run out. On Sunday, January 6th The Women of the ELCA provided baked goods. We need people to pick up the donuts starting Sunday, January 13th. Please call the church office at 492-9065 to volunteer or see the sign up sheet in the Coffee Shop next to the door. The donuts are picked up prior to 8:30 AM at the Dunkin' Donuts on South Salina Street just North of the church.

  • Notes of Thanks....

Betty and Pastor Peter say ÒThank youÓ for your many and varied greetings during the Christmas Season. Your remembrance is much appreciated as is your support and friendship throughout the year. May the Year of Our Lord-2008, be a time filled with His blessings and fulfilled dreams.

Thanks so much for all your generosity during the Christmas Season: your generosity to our congregation, to those in need and to me and my family. It is truly inspirational to be part of such a wonderful Church Family. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year,
    - Pr. Gaetz and family

  • Altar Flowers and Eternal Light

The 2008 Memorial Charts are now posted at the parking lot entrance to the church. It's time to get these important memorials spoken for.

    • Two arrangements of flowers are placed on the Altar at a cost of $40 per week. Your memorial inscription is listed in the bulletins and after the services the flowers are delivered to shut ins or those in the hospital. You may designate persons if you wish, by calling the church office the week before your flowers are placed.
    • The Eternal Light (red candle) that burns in the main sanctuary at all times as a reminder of Jesus' presence may also be placed as a memorial. The cost is $10 per month.
Please make your choice as soon as possible to avoid conflicts. AND, please be sure to list all the information we will need for the bulletin. Your donation is due the week before your chosen week.

There will be no Men in AtoneMENt meeting in January or February. The next meeting will be on March 20.

  • Sunday Adult Class Resumes

Starting next Sunday, January 13, we will once again be having a Sunday Adult Bible Study class meeting at the Church School hour in the conference room of the Kiesewetter Center. For the next few weeks we'll be studying the Bible texts for each Sunday. So bring your Bible and join the fun. Come whenever you can.

Each week will be an independent study unit. While we are on the subject, the Wednesday Mid Day Adult Class will be taking a winter break but will resume meeting during Lent. The Wednesday evening class, however, is meeting (at about 7pm every Wednesday). Their current topic is looking at the various Titles the Bible assigns to Jesus with an emphasis on seeing what that means in our relationship with him.

  • Hunger Doesn't Stop when the Holidays are Over

When you shop this week, please remember our food pantries. Of special need are meaty soups, stews and other canned meat (tuna, spam, chicken, Vienna sausage). Peanut butter, crackers, mayo (for tuna) and creamed soups for casseroles are always needed. Pasta sauce and pasta, Mac and cheese, and Raumen noodles are staples of which the pantries never have enough. Thanks for your help and generosity.
